THE SNAKE DIES BECAUSE OF HIS FOOLISHNESS
One day, snake decided to visit his in laws on the other side of the river, to tell them about the death of his wife. However he had a problem, the river was in full flow. Poor snake sat weeping by the shore not knowing what to do. Soon Duck came along and asked, “Any matter Mr Snake?” “I am unable to cross the river to see my in-laws and tell them about my wife’s death,’’Snake said between sobs
“Well this means you will have to wait until the river runs dry.” Duck said walking away. “Wait,” cried snake, “Are you not going to help me to cross the river?” “Not on your life. I want to live a long life,” Duck replied. Mr Snake cried loudly and duck was touched ,for she was very understanding. “Climb on my back and don’t do anything foolish,” she said.
Snake swore by his dead fathers that he wouldn’t harm her. He climbed on her back. Somewhere in the middle of the river, snake began toying with the idea of biting duck for fun. Before long the temptation was too much for him and he bit duck. Duck became weak and failed to swim.
As the two of them were drowning, duck weakly asked snake, “Why did you bite me before we ‘reach the‘ other side?” “You see, it’s my nature to bite and I could not resist the temptation.” Snake and duck drowned because of snake’s foolishness.
